In June 2017, P2M was visited by students from the Wageningen University in The Netherlands working in collaboration with the MHRA to investigate the possibility of enhancing the local, authentic and sustainable food consumption.

This is done in order to improve the attractiveness of Malta as a gastronomical destination for tourists. To achieve this, the students were interested in the whole chain from source to plate in Malta and what practices are currently being done in terms of production and sustainability. Their meetings with the company’s management illustrated the the image of farmed fish in Malta and specifically how the local people are aware of sustainability issues. The discussion included  concerns about sustainability and the problems around local demand for local Sea Bream due to competition with other countries such as Turkey.

The students agreed that much of the information that was given to them  proved very helpful in their research.
